XiFin’s Pharmacy Transformation Outlook Survey builds on responses from nearly 1,000 pharmacy professionals and examines how pharmacies are navigating a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape. The research comes as federal lawmakers consider legislation addressing Medicare coverage and reimbursement for certain pharmacist-provided services, including the Main Street Pharmacy Access Act (H.R. 3164), which would expand Medicare coverage for pharmacist-delivered clinical care services.

The companion Senate bill, the Equitable Community Access to Pharmacist Services Act (S. 2426), is currently under consideration in the U.S. Senate and would establish Medicare Part B reimbursement for certain pharmacist-provided services relating to COVID-19, influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and streptococcal pharyngitis (strep throat)—as well as other public health needs in relation to a declared public health emergency.

The survey findings are expected to support ongoing advocacy and interoperability initiatives such as the Future of Pharmacy Care Coalition (FPPC) and the Pharmacy Interoperability and Clinical Services Alliance (PICSA). With even stronger participation in the research, it is expected to reveal emerging growth areas, provide additional data on specialty pharmacy and clinical service expansion, and identify opportunities to improve efficiency through technology such as artificial intelligence (AI).

The fourth annual XiFin Pharmacy Transformation Survey dives deeper into specialty pharmacy growth, strategic partnerships, AI adoption, reimbursement challenges, financial sustainability, and technology barriers and usage trends.

Open to U.S.-based pharmacy professionals in retail, specialty, and hospital outpatient settings, the survey will provide year-over-year insights into the industry’s evolving priorities and growth opportunities. It is critical to collect sufficient data to continue advancing the role of pharmacies in addressing ongoing patient access and equity challenges. This year’s survey will further explore the trends, opportunities, and challenges influencing pharmacy performance and growth. This insight is needed by the industry in advance of legislation being passed so that pharmacies and their service providers ensure the efficient delivery of care.
