CORAL SPRINGS, FL, UNITED STATES, October 13, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — ClearWave Dental & Aesthetics, a family and cosmetic dental practice on Royal Palm Boulevard in Coral Springs, Florida, now offers chairside dental X-rays with the HyperLight Portable X-ray Unit, an FDA-cleared handheld imaging system. Led by Dr. Tadeu “Tad” Szpoganicz, DMD, FICOI, FICD, the practice is using the 3.9-pound device to capture diagnostic images directly at the treatment chair for children, adults, and seniors from Coral Springs, Parkland, Coconut Creek, Margate, and Tamarac.
The addition gives patients of the Coral Springs dentist a faster, more comfortable imaging experience. Instead of repositioning a patient beneath a fixed wall-mounted arm, the clinical team brings the X-ray source to the patient, aligns it with a built-in angulation guide, and captures the image in seconds.
An FDA-Cleared Handheld X-Ray System
The HyperLight received FDA 510(k) clearance (K232068) on September 1, 2023, as an extraoral X-ray source designed to produce diagnostic images with intraoral sensors, and the clearance covers both adult and pediatric patients. The unit operates at a fixed 65 kV and 2.5 mA with a constant-potential (DC) generator and 1.8 mm of aluminum filtration. Exposure time is set directly on the device, from 0.02 to 2.0 seconds, so there are fewer variables for the team to manage.
Because the HyperLight works with any digital sensor, it pairs directly with the digital X-ray technology ClearWave already uses for exams, cleanings, and treatment planning. Digital sensors display images on a chairside monitor within seconds and typically require less radiation than traditional film, which lets patients review their own images with Dr. Tad during the same visit.
Built Around Patient and Team Safety
The HyperLight is built to the federal performance standards that govern diagnostic X-ray equipment. It combines internal leaded collimation with a 13 mm lead-filled acrylic scatter shield that protects the operator from backscatter radiation, and the manufacturer developed it under FDA guidance written specifically for handheld X-ray equipment. The unit was also tested to IEC 60601-2-65, the international safety standard for dental X-ray systems.
ClearWave continues to follow the “as low as reasonably achievable” principle that guides modern dental radiography, taking images only when they support a diagnosis or a treatment decision.
Where Chairside Imaging Helps Most
Portability matters most for the patients who find traditional X-rays hardest. Young children and nervous first-time patients can stay seated in one comfortable position. Patients receiving oral sedation or laughing gas do not need to be moved partway through an appointment. Seniors and patients with limited mobility can be imaged with less shifting and strain. For families who book a child and a parent back to back, a quicker imaging step helps keep the whole visit on schedule.
The handheld unit also strengthens same-day emergency dental care. When a patient arrives with a severe toothache, facial swelling, or a cracked tooth, the team can capture images immediately in the operatory and move straight to diagnosis. During root canals, dental implant placement, and surgical extractions, Dr. Tad can confirm progress with a quick image without repositioning the patient or interrupting the procedure.
“Most people think of an X-ray as a quick step, but for a nervous child, a sedated patient, or someone who uses a wheelchair, getting into position can be the hardest part of the visit,” said Dr. Tadeu “Tad” Szpoganicz, DMD, FICOI, FICD, of ClearWave Dental & Aesthetics. “With the HyperLight, the imaging comes to the patient. We get the diagnostic information we need, and the patient stays comfortable in the chair. That also means I can walk each patient through exactly what we see on the screen before any treatment begins.”
